This guided small group tour takes you to two of the country’s most impressive waterfalls: Háifoss and Hjálparfoss with a visit to the reconstructed Viking farm Þjóðveldisbærinn.

Away from the busiest tourist routes, this tour offers time to explore, walk, and photograph landscapes shaped by fire, water and history over thousands of years. It’s an ideal choice for travellers who want to experience a quieter, more dramatic side of Iceland while still enjoying famous landmarks, comfortable transport and expert local guidance.

Highlights

• Háifoss — one of Iceland’s tallest and most powerful waterfalls

• Hjálparfoss — a striking double waterfall framed by basalt columns

• Þjóðveldisbærinn in Þjórsárdalur— a reconstructed Viking-era farm (entrance ticket is not included)

• Scenic highland landscapes and river valleys

• Small-group guided experience

If weather conditions are suitable, a short walk down into the valley where the river from the Háifoss waterfall flows is planned. Please make sure to bring comfortable and appropriate footwear and clothing.

  • A 100% charge applies if canceled within 1 days of the start time.
  • Hjálparfoss

Hjálparfoss is a unique twin waterfall where two streams merge into one, framed by striking basalt columns and lava formations. The area offers an easy walk and beautiful contrasts between dark volcanic rock and flowing water, making it a perfect introduction to Iceland’s raw highland scenery.

  • Háifoss

Háifoss is one of Iceland’s tallest and most powerful waterfalls, plunging dramatically into a deep canyon carved by volcanic activity. The surrounding landscape is wild and otherworldly, which is why the area was used as a filming location for Stranger Things. Standing here feels like stepping into another world, with vast views, rugged cliffs, and pure Icelandic nature at its most dramatic.

  • Þjóðveldisbærinn

Þjóðveldisbærinn is a reconstructed Viking-era farm based on archaeological findings from the 11th century. It provides a fascinating glimpse into how early Icelanders lived, with turf houses set in a peaceful valley. This stop includes time for lunch and a chance to explore Iceland’s history in an authentic setting.

Travel 900 years back in time within a minute of leaving the main road. Visit the Farm and experience a medieval and unconventional way of life. You can wear medieval clothing and play cards in the hall.

Weave on the loom and debate on the benches before heading out to battle.

Read about the daily life of the people who brought the valley to life almost a thousand years ago.

Departure from BSÍ Bus Terminal – City Center, Reykjavik. Please be there 15 minutes before departure time.
