Höfn is a busy harbour town in the south-east, spread on a low spit with the vast Vatnajökull ice cap glittering on the horizon. It’s celebrated across Iceland for its langoustine, honoured with its own festival.
The town is the prime base for glacier hikes, ice caves and boat trips on nearby Vatnajökull, and the photogenic Vestrahorn mountain at Stokksnes is minutes away. Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon and Diamond Beach lie just up the coast.
