A small, beautifully rustic geothermal pool on a private farm near Flúðir, carved into a hillside and surrounded by lush green meadows.

Hrunalaug is a natural hot spring on the Ás farm in Hrunamannahreppur, a 15-minute drive from the village of Flúðir in South Iceland. The pool is a small natural rock-and-concrete tub fed by geothermal water at around 38–40°C, set in a peaceful hollow with birch trees and meadow all around. It has been in the same family since the 1890s.

Unlike the large commercial lagoons, Hrunalaug is intimate and low-key — capacity is limited to a small group at a time, preserving the sense of having stumbled on a local secret. A changing cabin is on site. The surroundings are beautifully photogenic, and the drive through the Hrunamannahreppur countryside is pleasant.

Entry costs approximately 3,000 ISK for adults (paid in cash to the farm) and is time-limited to 1.5 hours per visit. Opening hours vary seasonally, roughly 08:00–22:00 in summer; advance booking via hrunalaug.is is required in peak season.
