The restaurant at Hótel Búðir, set in splendid isolation near the black Búðakirkja church on the southern Snæfellsnes coast, has long been regarded as one of Iceland’s destination dining rooms. Its pared-down, seasonal menu changes with what farmers and fishermen in the surrounding area can supply.
Expect dishes such as local lamb with parsley-root and birch purée or monkfish with barley, fennel and shellfish sauce, with vegetarian options also available. The setting, overlooking lava fields and the sea beneath Snæfellsjökull, adds to the sense of occasion. Reservations are recommended, and winter hours are reduced.
