Cosy daytime café in the village of Bakkagerði known for fish soup, cakes and sweeping fjord-and-mountain views.

Álfacafé is a welcoming, rustic café in Bakkagerði, the small village at the heart of remote Borgarfjörður eystri. It is consistently ranked the area’s top eatery, beloved for its perfectly cooked fish soup, smoked salmon, waffles with whipped cream and berries, and home-baked rhubarb and blueberry pies.

Large windows frame the surrounding mountains and fjord, and the room is decorated with local rock artifacts and folk pieces reflecting the region’s elf-and-folklore heritage. A popular pause for visitors heading to the famous puffin colony at Hafnarhólmi, it is a daytime, largely seasonal operation.
