North Iceland is a region of bucket-list wonders centred on Akureyri, the lively ‘Capital of the North’. Our tours here reach the thundering Goðafoss and Europe’s most powerful waterfall, Dettifoss; the geothermal wonderland and birdlife of Lake Mývatn; the bubbling mud pots of Námaskarð; and Húsavík, widely regarded as Iceland’s whale-watching capital.
With its own airport at Akureyri, the north is easy to reach and makes a superb focus for a multi-day trip or a stop on the Ring Road. Expect dramatic landscapes, rich wildlife and far fewer crowds than the south.
