Hlemmur Mathöll, Reykjavík, Iceland

In the tiny seaside village of Hauganes, Baccalá Bar is run by Ektafiskur, Iceland’s most renowned producer of salted cod (bacalao) — exported to top restaurants in Italy and Spain.
The beautifully decorated dining room and a porch shaped like a Viking ship overlook Eyjafjörður bay, with a menu of fish and meat dishes, pizzas, burgers, ice cream and beer.
Just off the route between Akureyri and Dalvík, it’s a quirky, scenic stop and the standout place to eat in the village.
