Glacier Tours & Ice Caves

Iceland’s glaciers cover roughly a tenth of the country, and our glacier tours and ice cave experiences take you into this frozen world safely and unforgettably. Strap on crampons for a guided glacier hike across a rippled sea of ancient ice, or step inside a naturally formed blue ice cave that glows in shades of sapphire and turquoise.

All glacier and ice cave tours are led by certified guides with the right equipment and expertise — these are powerful, ever-changing environments that should never be explored alone. From easygoing introductory walks to ice climbing and crystal cave expeditions, there’s an adventure for every level.

Meilleur moment pour y aller : Natural blue ice caves: November to March. Glacier hikes: year-round, with summer offering easier access and winter the caves.

Questions fréquemment posées

When can I visit a natural ice cave?

Naturally formed blue ice caves are accessible roughly from November to March, when winter cold makes them stable. Outside that window, ice tunnels such as the man-made one in Langjökull run year-round.

Are glacier tours safe?

Yes, when done with a certified guide and proper equipment (crampons, helmet, ice axe). Never walk on a glacier unguided — hidden crevasses are extremely dangerous.

Do I need experience for a glacier hike?

No. Introductory glacier walks require only reasonable fitness, and guides provide all technical gear and instruction. Ice climbing tours are more demanding.

What should I wear?

Warm layers, waterproof jacket and trousers, and sturdy hiking boots (crampons attach to these). Guides supply the safety equipment.

Are ice caves suitable for children?

Many ice cave and glacier tours have minimum age limits (often around 8–10), as the terrain can be uneven and cold. Check the requirements for each tour.
