A Snæfellsnes town beneath Kirkjufell, one of Iceland's most photographed mountains.

Grundarfjörður is a small fishing town on the northern shore of Snæfellsnes, famous the world over for the pointed peak of Kirkjufell rising beside it — often called Iceland’s most photographed mountain.

Kirkjufell and its foreground waterfall, Kirkjufellsfoss, are the draw, spectacular under the midnight sun or the northern lights. In winter, orcas and other whales gather in the fjord, and the town is a fine base for exploring Snæfellsjökull National Park.
