East Iceland's floating geothermal pools sit over the shallow waters of Urriðavatn lake, creating a unique sensation of bathing in the middle of the water.

Vök Baths opened in 2019 on the shore of Urriðavatn lake near Egilsstaðir, and the concept is unlike any other hot spring in Iceland: two circular floating pools are anchored offshore, so guests wade from the changing facilities through shallow lake water to reach them. The geothermal water, at 38–42°C, wells up from the lake bed itself.

The views from the pools stretch across the lake and surrounding farmland, and the experience is calm and uncrowded compared to the larger lagoons. A cold-plunge pool, sauna, steam room, swim-up bar, and an on-site restaurant complete the offering. The setting is understated and natural — the architecture is deliberately low-key to blend with the landscape.

Vök Baths is open year-round, with longer hours in summer (10:00–23:00 from mid-June to mid-September). Admission is approximately 7,700 ISK for adults. Booking ahead is advisable, especially in July and August.
