Þorlákshöfn is a harbour town on the south coast, one of the few settlements directly on this stretch of black-sand shoreline. Long a fishing and cargo port, it’s now growing fast and finding a new identity in coastal tourism.
Its wide black beaches are popular for horse riding and are among Iceland’s few surf spots. The town is close to Hveragerði and Selfoss and to the Raufarhólshellir lava tunnel.
