Summer for fishing and birdlife; winter for skiing and a peaceful fjord retreat.
Summer for fishing and birdlife; winter for skiing and a peaceful fjord retreat.
Ólafsfjörður is a peaceful fjord town in the north, reached through long mountain tunnels that connect it to Siglufjörður and Dalvík. Ringed by steep peaks, it feels wonderfully remote and still.
In winter it’s a low-key skiing base; in summer the calm Ólafsfjarðarvatn lake draws anglers and birdwatchers. With little traffic and big scenery, it’s a restful stop on the scenic northern coast between Akureyri and Siglufjörður.
