Patreksfjörður is the main town of the southern Westfjords, spread along a sheltered fjord amid some of Iceland’s most remote and beautiful coastline. It’s the base for reaching a cluster of the region’s greatest sights.
From here you can visit the vast Látrabjarg bird cliffs, alive with puffins in summer, and the golden sweep of Rauðisandur beach. The rusting Garðar BA 64, Iceland’s oldest steel ship, sits beached nearby. Access is straightforward in summer but limited in winter.
