Summer for the Strandir coast drive; the Sorcery Museum is open year-round.
Hólmavík is the largest village on the Strandir coast, a wild and sparsely populated stretch of the eastern Westfjords facing Húnaflói bay. It’s a place of dramatic emptiness and deep folklore.
Its claim to fame is the Museum of Icelandic Sorcery & Witchcraft, which explores the region’s 17th-century witch trials. Beyond it, the lonely Strandir road, the hot pots at nearby Drangsnes and the abandoned herring station at Djúpavík reward the drive north.
