Into the Glacier – Glacier Hike and Ice Cave Tour, Iceland

Trip difficulty: 3/5, moderate.

Tour Highlights: Small Group Experience, Vatnajokull – Europe's Largest Glacier, A Visit to a Natural Ice Cave, A Guided Glacier Hike

This Vatnajökull Ice Cave Tour will introduce you to some of the most exciting activities  – Iceland glacier hike and ice cave. Vatnajokull ice caves are naturally formed and unique. They are constantly changing, so what you'll see on this Vatnajokull Ice Cave tour can never be repeated!

Ice cave and Glacier Hike, Iceland:

During the winter, we are able to offer an unforgettable tour into the glacier. Every year we use a different cave, as the glacier is ever changing and it provides us with an amazing place to explore every winter. The ice cave is very sensitive to temperature, accessibility and other conditions. We always put safety first on these tours and never go into the glacier unless it is absolutely safe for our guests. Visiting an Ice Cave provides a unique experience and great photographic opportunity. The light shining through the ancient ice projects a magical blue color that is characteristic for the crystal caves.

Our highly qualified glacier guides will make sure safety issues are in order and get you all the necessary glacier gear needed for the tour.

Please note that the tour is operated from Skaftafell so you need to arrange transport to the meeting point.  If you are an experienced driver we recommend that you rent a car because the bus schedule is limited during the winter. You might also be interested in our two-day tour.

If you are looking for other options that include glacier exploration and transportation to and from Reykjavik please check out the Glaciers & Waterfalls tour.

For important safety reasons it is not recommended to go into the ice caves without a certified glacier guide.

Meeting point: The tour starts at the Arctic Adventures hut in Skaftafell.

Disclaimer: All day trips are undertaken on the responsibility of its participants. Arctic Adventures does not assume any responsibility for accidents which are caused by its customers or can be traced to there own actions. Participants have to sign a waiver before undertaking all trips stating that they realize that all outdoor activities carry an inherent risk.
