This is Iceland at its most rare and intimate. For a few precious weeks each year, at the height of the Icelandic summer, a small number of private hot air balloon flights take off from Selfoss, giving your group the sky to yourselves.

The entire basket is yours alone, whether you are two or six. Drift silently over rolling green valleys, glacial rivers, and volcanic landscapes as Iceland unfolds beneath you in every direction. No strangers, no shared schedule – just your group, the crew, and 90 minutes of flight over some of the most breathtaking scenery on earth.

Choose between two ways to begin your adventure. With the transfer option, an experienced driver collects your group from your Capital Area accommodation and takes you directly to the launch site. Prefer to make your own way? The meet-at-location option lets you arrive independently, ideal if you are already exploring South Iceland or staying nearby.

Whichever option you choose, the flight begins with a safety briefing from a crew with over 30 years of expertise, and ends with a traditional champagne toast and light refreshments upon landing.

Availability is strictly limited. Private flights operate only during a short window in July and August, with just three departures per day. Your preferred flight time will be arranged personally with our team the day before your flight. Early booking is essential to secure your preferred date.

Clothing and footwear

Warm, windproof outer layer – temperatures at altitude are noticeably cooler than on the ground, even in summer.
Comfortable, closed-toe shoes with flat soles – no heels or open sandals permitted in the balloon basket.
Warm hat and gloves, especially for morning and evening flights.
Sunglasses – essential at altitude, particularly during evening flights under the midnight sun.

Capital Area Hotel Pickup – transfer option only
Your driver collects your group directly from your accommodation anywhere in the Capital Area approximately one hour before your scheduled flight time. The transfer to the launch site near Selfoss takes approximately 45 minutes. Your exact pickup time will be confirmed individually the day before your flight.
Selfoss Balloon Launch Site (Stop – approx. 90 min flight)
After a short safety briefing from the experienced flight crew, your group boards the balloon for a private 90-minute flight over the breathtaking South Iceland landscape. Drift above green valleys, glacial rivers, and volcanic terrain in near-total silence, with the entire basket to yourselves. Following landing, enjoy a traditional champagne toast and light refreshments.
Capital Area Hotel Drop-off (Pass By) – transfer option only
Your driver takes your group back directly to your accommodation in the Capital Area. The full experience, from pickup to drop-off, takes approximately 3 hours. A perfect half-day adventure that leaves you with the rest of the day to explore.

A 100% charge applies if canceled within 1 days of the start time.
A 5% charge applies if canceled within 999 days of the start time.

Confirmation and scheduling

You will receive a booking confirmation immediately after purchase.
Three flight times are available each day: morning, afternoon, and evening. Your preferred flight time will be arranged personally with our team the day before your flight.
For the transfer option: pickup takes place approximately one hour before your scheduled flight time. Your exact pickup time will be confirmed individually the day before departure.
Pickup is available from any accommodation within the Reykjavík Capital Area (transfer option only).

Weather and cancellation

Hot air balloon flights are weather-dependent. In the event of unsuitable conditions (high winds, heavy rain, poor visibility), the flight may be cancelled or rescheduled.
If your flight is cancelled due to weather, you will be offered a choice: an alternative tour of your preference, a voucher for a future available date, or a full refund.
The final decision on whether conditions are safe for flight rests with the flight crew at all times.

Health and safety

This experience is not suitable for pregnant guests or guests recovering from recent surgery.
Guests must be able to stand comfortably for the duration of the flight (approximately 90 minutes).
Total passenger weight must not exceed 600 kg per flight.

Children and age requirements

Minimum age: 11 years.
Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.

Punctuality and no-show policy

For the transfer option: please be ready at your accommodation at the confirmed pickup time.
For the meet-at-location option: please arrive at the launch site at the time confirmed by our team.
Balloon flights operate on a fixed schedule and cannot be delayed for late arrivals. If you are not available at the confirmed time, this will be treated as a no-show and no refund or rebooking will be offered.
