Step into one of Iceland’s most remote and peaceful places on this private guided tour to Mjóifjörður – a narrow fjord known for its solitude, natural beauty, and tiny population. Home to only around 14 year-round residents, the village of Brekkuþorp offers a rare glimpse into life far off the beaten path.
Our tour takes you down the winding mountain road into the fjord, with your guide sharing stories and insights along the way. You’ll visit the majestic Klifbrekkufossar waterfall, one of East Iceland’s most photogenic natural features, as well as explore hidden highlights like Prestagil Ravine, rich with folklore, and Smjörvogur, a secluded cove once used as a natural prison.
We’ll also pass the historic site of Asknes, where the remains of one of the largest whaling stations in the world still stand – a silent reminder of Iceland’s industrial past.
To end the journey, we stop in the village for a relaxing visit to a cozy local café, where you can enjoy a good cup of coffee and light refreshments before heading back.
This tour is all about stillness, storytelling, and scenery – a truly East Icelandic experience.
Operated as a private tour for 1–7 passengers.
Your journey into Iceland’s quietest fjord begins here
We start the tour with pickup in either Seyðisfjörður or Egilsstaðir. From there, we head toward the rugged mountain road that leads down into Mjóifjörður. Along the way, your guide will share stories about the region, nature, and life in East Iceland.

As we descend the steep mountain pass, enjoy panoramic views of the fjord below. This part of the drive is an adventure in itself and gives you a real sense of isolation and beauty.
One of East Iceland’s most stunning natural wonders
We stop at Klifbrekkufossar, a multi-tiered waterfall cascading dramatically down the mountainside. It’s a perfect place for photos and a breath of fresh fjord air.
Folklore, history, and Icelandic solitude
Your guide will point out fascinating places like Prestagil – the Priest’s Ravine – tied to local legends, the secluded Smjörvogur inlet, and the ruins of the Asknes whaling station, once the largest in the world.
