This is one of Iceland's rarest and most intimate summer experiences. For a few precious weeks each year, at the height of the Icelandic summer, a small number of hot air balloon flights take off from Selfoss, offering a perspective of this island that very few will ever see.

Float quietly over green valleys, rivers, and volcanic land, with amazing views all around you. With only six places available per flight, this is as close to a private sky as it gets. Three daily departures let you choose your moment: the crisp clarity of a morning ascent, the warm glow of an afternoon drift, or the extraordinary golden light of an evening flight under Iceland's midnight sun.

Your experience begins with a comfortable transfer from your accommodation anywhere in the Capital Area. An experienced driver takes you to the launch site near Selfoss, where a crew with over 30 years of flight expertise prepares your balloon. The flight itself lasts approximately 90 minutes, followed by a traditional champagne toast and light refreshments upon landing.

Availability is strictly limited. Flights operate only during a short window in July and August, with just three departures per day and a maximum of six guests per flight. Places fill quickly. Early booking is essential to secure your preferred date and time.

Clothing and footwear

Warm, windproof outer layer – temperatures at altitude are noticeably cooler than on the ground, even in summer.
Comfortable, closed-toe shoes with flat soles – no heels or open sandals permitted in the balloon basket.
Warm hat and gloves, especially for morning and evening flights.
Sunglasses – essential at altitude, particularly during evening flights under the midnight sun.

Capital Area Hotel Pickup
Your driver collects you directly from your accommodation anywhere in the Capital Area approximately one hour before your scheduled flight time.
The transfer to the launch site near Selfoss takes approximately 45 minutes. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the Icelandic scenery on the way.
Your exact pickup time will be confirmed individually at least 24 hours in advance.
Selfoss Balloon Launch Site
After a short safety briefing from the experienced flight crew, you board the balloon for a 90-minute flight over the breathtaking South Iceland landscape.
Drift above green valleys, glacial rivers, and volcanic terrain in near-total silence.
Following landing, enjoy a traditional champagne toast and light refreshments with your fellow guests.
Capital Area Hotel Drop-off
Your driver takes you back directly to your accommodation in the Capital Area.
The full experience, from pickup to drop-off, takes approximately 3 hours. A perfect half-day adventure that leaves you with the rest of the day to explore.

A 100% charge applies if canceled within 1 days of the start time.
A 5% charge applies if canceled within 999 days of the start time.

You will receive a booking confirmation immediately after purchase.
Three flight times are available each day: morning (9:00), afternoon (14:00), and evening (20:00). Your preferred time slot will be arranged with our team after booking.
For the transfer option: pickup takes place approximately one hour before your scheduled flight time. Your exact pickup time will be confirmed individually at least 24 hours before departure.
Pickup is available from any accommodation within the Reykjavík Capital Area (transfer option only).

Weather and cancellation

Hot air balloon flights are weather-dependent. In the event of unsuitable conditions (high winds, heavy rain, poor visibility), the flight may be cancelled or rescheduled.
If your flight is cancelled due to weather, you will be offered a choice: an alternative tour of your preference, a voucher for a future available date, or a full refund.
The final decision on whether conditions are safe for flight rests with the flight crew at all times.

Health and safety

This experience is not suitable for pregnant guests or guests recovering from recent surgery.
Guests must be able to stand comfortably for the duration of the flight (approximately 90 minutes).
Total passenger weight must not exceed 600 kg per flight.

Children and age requirements

Minimum age: 11 years.
Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.

Punctuality and no-show policy

For the transfer option: please be ready at your accommodation at the confirmed pickup time.
For the meet-at-location option: please arrive at the launch site at the time confirmed by our team.
Balloon flights operate on a fixed schedule and cannot be delayed for late arrivals. If you are not available at the confirmed time, this will be treated as a no-show and no refund or rebooking will be offered.

What to expect

This is a shared experience. You may fly alongside other guests unless all six places are booked by your group.
The full experience from hotel pickup to drop-off takes approximately 3 hours (with transfer option).
The flight itself lasts approximately 90 minutes, depending on weather conditions.
