Borgarnes stretches along a slender promontory in Borgarfjörður, its bridge and fjord crossing among the most scenic on the west coast. Steeped in saga history, it was home to Egill Skallagrímsson, one of the great figures of Icelandic literature.

The Settlement Centre brings the sagas and Iceland’s founding to life, while the riverside paths and quirky Bjössaróló playground make it family-friendly. It’s the gateway to Borgarfjörður’s waterfalls, hot springs and lava caves.
