Djúpivogur is a tranquil village on a peninsula in the south-east, and Iceland’s first member of the international Cittaslow ‘slow towns’ movement, which prizes an unhurried, sustainable pace of life.
Along its harbour stands Eggin í Gleðivík, an artwork of 34 giant granite eggs, one for each local nesting bird. The pyramid peak of Búlandstindur towers behind, and in summer boats visit the puffin island of Papey. The old Langabúð warehouse holds the town’s heritage museum.
