Iceland's largest inland town sits where the Ölfusá River meets the south-coast plain, a lively hub of cafés, bakeries, and the gateway to the Golden Circle.

Selfoss is the most populous town on Iceland’s South Coast, straddling the Ölfusá River about an hour’s drive from Reykjavík. Its compact centre brims with independent shops, bakeries, and restaurants that cater to both locals and travellers passing through on Ring Road adventures.

The suspension bridge over the Ölfusá is the town’s most recognisable landmark, and the riverside promenade makes for a pleasant stroll. Selfoss is often used as a base for day trips to Þingvellir, Geysir, Gullfoss, and the secret lagoon at Flúðir, putting much of southern Iceland within easy reach.

Selfoss is a year-round destination with full amenities including supermarkets, petrol stations, and accommodation. It is particularly lively in summer when cyclists and campers converge on the region.
