Grindavík is a working fishing town on the southern coast of the Reykjanes peninsula, set against a stark volcanic landscape that has come dramatically to life with recent eruptions nearby. It sits within the Reykjanes UNESCO Global Geopark.
The world-famous Blue Lagoon is just outside town, and the surrounding geothermal fields, Gunnuhver hot springs and the Bridge Between Continents are all close. Because of ongoing volcanic activity in the area, check official conditions before visiting.
