Sólheimasandur Plane Wreck

You might recognize the picture of Sólheimasandur Plane Wreck, but maybe you don’t know the story behind it. In 1973, a DC-3 airplane from the US Navy crashed after running out of fuel and ended up in this place. The scene started to be peculiar to a lot of people and became a popular tourist attraction. A new controversy has been out about this place. We Icelanders don’t acknowledge the aircraft as own. The military back in the day from the US just decided to not deal with the aircraft, leaving it behind to Iceland.
