The Lava Tunnel, Þorlákshafnarvegur, Iceland

Katla is not just another volcano. Located in the South of Iceland, Katla has erupted 20 times between 930 and 1918. During the last years, it has been more about small eruptions that haven’t break the ice cover. Katla lies underneath the Myrdalsjökull glacier, and it is said that he is long overdue. This means, if the numbers are correct, Katla could erupt at any time. But let’s hope she can still be calm for a while!
