Fossatún

At Fossatún we visit the Troll’s Park which was created by the owners as a recreation for the guests at Fossatún. Some of the trolls in the Trolls’ Park are quite scary looking. One of them is Grýla, who is the mother of the Icelandic Yule Lads (Jólasveinar). Having a stroll among the trolls is a very unique experience.

Deildatunguhver

Deildartunguhver is characterized by very high flow rate for a hot spring, about 180 liters per second and the water emerges at 97° celcius. It is the highest-flow hot spring in Europe.
Some of the water is used for house heating and bathing in Borgarnes and Akranes.

By Deildartunguhver there was recently built beautiful and relaxing spa Krauma, where it is possible to bathe and relax in the water from Deildartunguhver.
Price for Krauma Spa is not included in tour price.

A fern called Struthiopteris fallax grows in Deildartunguhver. This fern is the only endemic fern in Iceland and it does not grow anywhere else in the world.

赫劳恩福萨尔

Hraunfossar or Lava Waterfalls emerge from underground lava tubes from beneath Hallmundarhraun lava field and falls into the glacier river Hvítá, where the pure groundwater meets the glacier river it forms beautiful color spectrums.

Hraunfossar is right next to 巴纳福斯, a waterfall which comes from a normal river.

巴纳福斯

Barnafoss was previouslu named Bjarnarfoss.

Many Icelandic folk tales have been associated with Barnafoss, the most famous being about two boys from a nearby farm, Hraunsás. One day, the boys’ parents went with their ploughmen to a church. The boys were supposed to stay at home, but as they grew bored they decided to follow their parents. They made a shortcut and crossed a natural stone-bridge that was above the waterfall. But on their way, they felt dizzy and fell into the water and drowned. When their mother found out what had happened, she put a spell on the bridge saying that nobody would ever cross it without drowning himself. A little while later, the bridge was demolished in an earthquake.

Recently the river has formed a tunnel through the cliff and made a new stone-bridge.

Reykholt Church

The new church in Reykholt was consecrated on July 28, 1996. The church has old church bells, the Frobenius organ of Reykjavík Cathedral, award-winning stone windows and a baptismal font made of clay, a Norwegian gift. The baptismal font and altarpiece of the church in Reykholt date from around 1500, now the property of the National Museum. A new cross was erected for the foundation of the church in the summer of 2012.

The old church in Reykholt was built in the years 1885 – 1887 and was a parish church until 1996.
The old church and was restored as close to its original form as possible between 2001 and 2006. It is situated at Snorrastofa, the former residence of Iceland‘s most important saga writer, chieftain and poet, Snorri Sturluson who was also one of the most prominent scholars during the Viking era. His works includes the Prose Edda, Gylfaginning, and Heimskringla. Next to the old church is an ancient hot tub and what is left of a tunnel that lead to “Baðstofa” which was a living room in agent houses. The hot tub and the tunnel was built by Snorri Sturluson.

It now belongs to the building museum of the National Museum of Iceland.
