柯克尤菲尔斯福斯

Kirkjufellsfoss is a set of three small but beautifully proportioned waterfalls on a stream flowing past the base of Kirkjufell mountain near Grundarfjörður on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Together, the waterfalls and the iconic arrow-head peak behind them form arguably the most reproduced landscape composition in Iceland.

The scene is captivating in every season — summer greenery, autumn golds, and the blue-violet winter sky behind an aurora borealis have all been captured here by photographers from around the world. A wooden viewing platform and boardwalk were installed to protect the grass and give visitors the ideal angle.

The waterfall car park is signposted from Route 54 just outside Grundarfjörður. The walk from the car park to the falls takes under five minutes. Sunrise and sunset light are particularly magical; the northern lights season (September to March) draws a dedicated crowd of aurora chasers.
