Depart from Reykjavik at 8:00am. Your guide will pick you up from your Reykjavík hotel in your private vehicle and take you southeast along the Ring Road, sharing their knowledge of the country as you drive.
The first stop on our tour is the breathtaking Seljalandsfoss waterfall. During most of the year, you can walk behind the waterfall into a cave for a view from the back and the sides. The surrounding area is also home to a variety of plant life, including moss, wildflowers, and ferns that add to its majesty. Bring a rain jacket because this waterfall by far has the most spray!
Next up is the mighty Skogafoss waterfall, one of Iceland’s largest waterfalls, with a drop of over 60 meters. Feel the power of this waterfall close up. The mist from the falls can create a beautiful display of rainbows on sunny days if you’re lucky. If you want a workout, climb up a nearby staircase to get a bird’s-eye view of the waterfall and surrounding landscapes.
Solheimajokull glacier is our next stop and an absolute highlight of the tour. This is one of the few locations in the world where you can walk from the car park onto a glacier in about 30 minutes. The hike itself will be roughly 2.5 hours in total from start to finish and your guide will gear you up and teach you how to walk on your glacial crampons before starting. It is an easy hike if you are moderately fit but some parts of it have you walking at a slight upward incline to get to the plateau of the glacier. As you make your way up, your guide will share some interesting facts about the glacier’s formation, its importance to Iceland’s ecosystem, and how it has changed throughout the years. Hiking amongst the crystal blue ice and volcanic ash is unlike anything that you will ever experience and your guide will be leading you to the most photogenic features on the glacier including crevasses and deep glacial holes.
After our glacier hike, we will visit the towering cliffs of Dyrhólaey, where you can see breathtaking views of the black sand beaches and some truly remarkable sea stacks and cliff formations. Keep your eyes peeled for puffins and other seabirds that nest in the cliffs in the summertime.
Before heading to the Black Beach we will take a late lunch the Black Beach Restaurant. Here you can enjoy an assortment of fish, lamb, soups, sandwiches, and burgers with a nice beautiful view of the beach.
We will end our tour with a visit to Reynisfjara, a stunning black sand beach with towering basalt columns and sea stacks. The beach is also home to some fascinating folklore and legends, including the story of the Reynisdrangar sea stacks. You can also explore the nearby cave, Halsanefshellir, which has unique rock formations and provides a stunning backdrop for photos.
We conclude this epic adventure with a relaxing drive back to Reykjavik where you will part ways with your guide and get dropped off back at your accommodation.
Throughout the tour, your photographer will capture the beauty of the landscapes and the memories of your trip, so you can relax and enjoy the sights without worrying about taking photos. At the end of the journey, you will receive an edited photo package as a keepsake of your South Coast adventure within 14 days.
