On the return from the cruise we will enjoy instrumental music in the natural echo of the ocean cave Klettshellir. (Part of Vestmannaeyjar history) Then we will be visiting museum called Pompei of the North as the locals have opened up a museum about the eruption that impacted the town.

  • Description of Day

Your personal driver guide for the day will pick you up at your hotel in Reykjavík at 08:00 and the day begins with a drive to the high temperature areas of Hellisheiði, crossing rivers and seeing boreholes that are directly linked to the magma in the earth‘s crust. We then continue to the black sandy beaches of the south coast of Iceland and drive along the shoreline with a fantastic view over the North Atlantic ocean. Our next stop will be the Harbour of Landeyjarhöfn where we take a ferry to the volcanic islands of Vestmannaeyjar. We will do a tour around the amazing island of Heimaey or Home Island, the only inhabited island of the archipelago where we will e.g. visit a puffin colony, stand on a volcano that changed the lives of the locals when it erupted in 1973 and also see the biggest elephant on planet earth.

We will then take a lunch break before taking a beautiful boat cruise around the islands and hopefully see some whales during the cruise. On the return from the cruise you will enjoy instrumental music in the natural echo of the ocean cave Klettshellir. We end this lovely day by catching the ferry back to the mainland where we head to where we started from, Reykjavík.
