Iceland's Golden Circle is the country's defining day route. This tour covers all three of its landmark sites privately, in a dedicated vehicle for your group alone, and builds in something that makes the day genuinely different: a sit-down lunch at Fridheimar, one of the most distinctive dining experiences in Iceland.
Fridheimar is a fourth-generation family farm with a greenhouse operation that has run year-round for decades, producing tomatoes and cucumbers under glass in the heart of the Icelandic countryside. Lunch is served inside the greenhouse, among the vines, with the warm air and the scent of ripening produce filling the space. The meal – tomato soup, freshly baked bread, and a non-alcoholic drink – is made from the farm's own harvest and is included in the tour price. It is a meal that belongs only to Iceland.
The route begins at Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the setting of the Alþing, Iceland's parliament since 930 AD and widely considered the world's first democratic assembly. After lunch at Fridheimar, the day continues to the Geysir Geothermal Area, where Strokkur erupts to heights of up to 30 metres at intervals of just five to eight minutes. The tour closes at Gullfoss, a powerful two-tiered waterfall descending into a canyon of the Hvítá River.
The vehicle is private throughout: no shared passengers, no fixed pace. A sedan is provided for groups of one to three; a minivan for four to eight. Your English-speaking guide is with you from pickup to drop-off, door to door from your Reykjavík accommodation.
Your day begins in Reykjavik with a comfortable pickup from your accommodation. As you leave the city, the colorful houses fade into wide open Icelandic landscapes. The drive is peaceful, giving you time to relax and enjoy the scenery as the adventure begins.
Your first stop is Þingvellir National Park, one of Iceland’s most important historical and geological sites, where you can walk between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, visit the site of the world’s oldest parliament (Althingi), enjoy stunning views of lava fields, cliffs, and lakes, and take time for short walks and photos.
Next, you’ll visit the famous Geysir geothermal area, home to bubbling hot springs and steaming vents, where you can watch the Strokkur geyser erupt every few minutes, explore colorful geothermal pools, and learn about Iceland’s volcanic activity.
The journey continues to Gullfoss Waterfall, one of Iceland’s most iconic natural wonders. Watch as glacial waters plunge in two stages into a dramatic canyon, sending up mist that sometimes forms beautiful rainbows. Walking along the paths, you’ll feel the energy and majesty of this incredible waterfall.
Your journey continues to the quieter Faxi Waterfall, located on the Tungufljót River, where you can enjoy a peaceful atmosphere away from large tour groups, walk close to the waterfall, and even spot salmon jumping during the summer months, adding a unique and relaxed touch to your Golden Circle experience.
From there, you head to Fridheimar, a unique greenhouse and farm where tomatoes grow year-round thanks to geothermal energy. Enjoy the warm, fragrant environment, see how the farm operates, and even taste fresh tomato products. It’s a charming stop that combines nature, innovation, and Icelandic culture.
Afterward, you visit Kerid Crater, a striking volcanic crater with deep red walls surrounding a calm blue lake. You can walk along the rim or closer to the water to take in the dramatic colors and serene surroundings, making it a perfect spot for photos and quiet reflection.
Finally, you return to Reykjavik, reflecting on a day filled with Icelandic landscapes, geothermal wonders, waterfalls, volcanic craters, and a unique farm experience. The drive back is relaxing, leaving you with unforgettable memories of this full-day adventure.
