Discover the stories of East Iceland on a private journey through reindeer country, forest landscapes and the old wilderness life of Fljótsdalur.
This easy-paced tour begins with pickup in Seyðisfjörður or Egilsstaðir and takes you through some of the most peaceful landscapes in East Iceland. Along the way, your guide shares stories about Hallormsstaður forest, Lagarfljót, the surrounding countryside and, if there is interest, the legend of the Lagarfljót Worm.
The first main stop is the Wilderness Center in Fljótsdalur, where guests spend approximately one hour exploring the exhibition and learning about life on the edge of the Icelandic highlands. The visit gives insight into the people, traditions and way of life that shaped this remote part of the country.
After the exhibition, the journey continues through Fljótsdalur and Fell towards the Reindeer Park.
At the Reindeer Park, guests spend approximately 30–45 minutes seeing reindeer up close and learning about their history, behaviour and importance to East Iceland.
Wild reindeer may sometimes be seen along the route, but sightings are never guaranteed.
The tour then returns to Seyðisfjörður or Egilsstaðir, depending on the pickup location.
Please bring warm layers and clothes suitable for changing Icelandic weather, along with comfortable walking shoes. Open-toed footwear is not recommended.
A phone or camera is great to have for photos, and please bring any personal medication you may need during the tour.
Your driver-guide will meet you at the agreed pickup location. For cruise passengers arriving in Seyðisfjörður, pickup is planned around the ship schedule.
