Explore the Snæfellsnes Peninsula on a private tour from Reykjavík with your own driver-guide: seals at Ytri Tunga, Búðir, Arnarstapi, Djúpalónssandur, Saxhóll Crater and Kirkjufell, at your pace, with door-to-door pickup.

The Snæfellsnes Peninsula is often called Iceland in miniature: a glacier-capped volcano, craters, sea arches, black beaches and one of the most photographed mountains in the country, all on one peninsula and far from the crowds of the south.

This is a fully private tour. Your group gets a dedicated driver-guide and a vehicle that belongs entirely to you for the day. No fixed pace, no waiting for other passengers, no compromises. If the seals are out at Ytri Tunga or the light is perfect at Kirkjufell, you stay. The day is yours.

On the southern shore, Ytri Tunga is one of the few places in Iceland where you can often see harbour seals resting on the rocks. At Búðir, a small black church stands alone on an open lava plain with the glacier behind it. Then comes Snæfellsjökull National Park: the volcano that inspired Jules Verne's Journey to the Centre of the Earth, the narrow Rauðfeldsgjá gorge you can step into, and the Gatklettur sea arch at Arnarstapi.

At Djúpalónssandur, black pebbles, the rusting remains of a shipwreck and the old fishermen's lifting stones fill a sheltered cove. After the Hólahólar crater row, a staircase takes you up Saxhóll Crater for views across the lava fields, and the day ends at Kirkjufell, the arrowhead mountain above the fjord with its waterfall in front.

Throughout the day your driver-guide is right there, sharing stories, sagas and practical tips about Iceland's nature, history and culture, so you don't just see the peninsula, you understand why it is so special.

Full details of each stop are in the itinerary. Pick-up and drop-off anywhere in the Capital Area, including the cruise terminals, is included. The order of stops may be adjusted on the day due to weather or road conditions.

A perfectly preserved volcanic crater rising from the flat peninsula landscape, Saxhóll rewards the small effort it takes. A metal staircase winds up the outside of the crater to the rim, where 360-degree views open up across the peninsula, the surrounding lava fields and the glacier of Snæfellsjökull above. The climb is short and the views from the top are well worth it.

  • Montagna Kirkjufell
