Enjoy a scenic sit-on-top kayak trip down Svartá-river in close proximity with the Icelandic nature. During the relaxed tour down the calm river you will get chance to paddle your way through exciting fords and even now and then get carried away by gentle streams of the river. This tour has been one of our most popular one renowned for immersing guests into endless waves of the Icelandic nature’s beauty. Checkin at Bakkaflöt where you will put in dry-pants, splash top, PFD, neoprene shoes, helmet. You will then be driven 15 minutes upriver from Bakkaflöt where you will receive instructions on paddling and river safety. Our guides are international experienced guides who know the river and streams by heart. After the trip it is necessary to relax in our hot tubs. It's a good recreational activity for anyone at any skill level. Age limit is 12 years unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. Please specify when booking if you will be bringing individuals younger than 12 for the trip.

Kayak Tour Itinerary

1. Welcome & Check-in – 10 minutes
Your adventure begins at Bakkaflöt, 561 Varmahlíð. After checking in at reception, you’ll be directed to the boathouse, where you’ll meet your guides. The boathouse has changing facilities and all the equipment you’ll need for the tour.

2. Equipment & Safety Briefing – 15 minutes
Your guide will provide all necessary equipment, including dry pants, a splash jacket, personal flotation device (PFD), neoprene shoes, and a helmet. Before setting off, you’ll receive a comprehensive safety briefing and an introduction to the equipment.

3. Transfer to the Starting Point – 15 minutes
A 15-minute drive takes you upstream from Bakkaflöt to the launch site on the banks of the Svartá River.

4. Paddling Instruction – 15 minutes
Before entering the water, your guides will teach you the basics of kayaking, including paddling techniques, steering, and essential river safety, ensuring everyone feels comfortable and confident.

5. Kayaking Adventure – 1 to 1,5 hour
Enjoy a scenic sit-on-top kayak journey down the beautiful Svartá River, surrounded by Iceland’s unspoiled nature. During this relaxed tour, you’ll paddle through gentle currents, navigate exciting fords, and occasionally let the river’s natural flow carry you downstream. It’s the perfect combination of peaceful exploration and light adventure.

6. End of the Tour – 10 minutes
The tour ends beside Bakkaflöt. From the landing point, it’s just a five-minute walk to the boathouse, where you’ll return your equipment. Afterwards, relax and soak in our hot tubs—the perfect way to unwind after your river adventure.
