Reykjavík is Iceland’s capital and the world’s northernmost — home to roughly two-thirds of the country’s population, yet remarkably small, walkable and relaxed. It’s the natural base for exploring the island.

Founded where Ingólfur Arnarson made Iceland’s first settlement in 874 AD, its name means “Smoky Bay”, after the geothermal steam that still heats the city today. Colourful rooftops, Hallgrímskirkja, the Harpa concert hall and a lively music and food scene give it its character.
