Svartifoss

Its name translates to “The Black Waterfall,” and you can understand why this name as soon as you see it. With a 20 meter drop, this waterfall has an elegant cascade descending into a calm pool that combines with the beauty of the basalt columns on its background.

Even though the waterfall itself is just beautiful, the basalt columns are the ones giving the more significant impact on the spectator. The Svinafellsjokull glacier is the one feeding this waterfall. When visiting Svartifoss, you will be able to start the hike from the Visitor Centre in Skaftafell for 1.5 km long, and if you want, you will be able to stay in the campsite of the Skaftafell National Park.
