Ölverk Pizza & Brewery opened in 2017 in the hot-spring town of Hveragerði, about half an hour from Reykjavík, and has become a reliable favourite for road-trippers on the way south. Its standout feature is a microbrewery powered by Iceland’s geothermal energy, producing distinctive house beers on site.
The food centres on genuinely good wood-fired pizzas, which pair naturally with the brewery’s own range. The room is relaxed and comfortable, a welcome stop after a day of driving or soaking in nearby geothermal areas.
It keeps long daily hours, opening from late morning through to evening, making it easy to fit in for lunch or dinner.
