Strandir is one of the most captivating destinations in the country due to its isolation and natural landscapes. If you want to do something different in Iceland and not just the typical tours, Strandir is a great option.

Strandir holds a compelling and poignant history of witchcraft, witch-hunting, and sorcery, offering a tour into the mystical world of the supernatural. Our journey begins early as we depart from Reykjavik and make our way to the charming town of Hólmavík, the largest settlement in Strandir. Here, you will find the Museum of Icelandic Sorcery and Witchcraft, delving into the intriguing stories and practices of the past.

Continuing along the coastline of Steingrimsfjörður, we are often treated to the sight of Humpback Whales in the fjord—an awe-inspiring encounter with these magnificent creatures.

The Sorcerer's Cottage provides a glimpse into the lives of the locals during the 17th century, offering insight into why people turned to sorcery to seek solace in their challenging lives.

As we venture approximately 70 kilometers from Hólmavík, we reach the village of Djúpavík. Once a bustling hub during the prosperous "herring" age, this abandoned village now stands as a ghostlike testament to the past. The remnants of a desolate factory transports you back in time, revealing the sheer remoteness of this place.

Just north of Djúpavík, we have the privilege of visiting what can be argued as one of the world's most secluded man-made swimming pools, Krossneslaug. This hidden gem offers a comfortably warm pool where you can unwind with the view of the North Atlantic Ocean. Price is per vehicle.

  • Ghostlike Djúpavík

Some 70 kilometers from Hólmavík we arrive at the magical, ghostlike village of Djúpavík. Hundreds of people lived here in the golden “herring” age. The abandoned factory brings you back in time and gives you an idea of how remote this place truly is.

  • Remote Swimming Pool

Just north of Djúpavík we will dip our toes in what can arguably be named as one of the most remote man-made swimming pools in the world, Krossneslaug. Here you can relax in the comfortably warm pool while watching the waves of the North Atlantic. A truly unique experience.
