Are you interested in some breathtaking landscapes? On the Ice Exploration tour, our guide will expose you to some of the best treasures the glacier has to offer. The glacier is in constant change which results in some beautiful characteristics such as crevasses, moulins, and seracs. Sounds good? Then the Ice Exploration tour is something for you!

THE TOUR

On the Ice Exploration tour, you will spend around 2 hours hiking on Breiðamerkurjökull with one of our experienced guides. The glacier in question is an outlet glacier of the more prominent Vatnajökull and is best known for being the glacier overlooking the Glacier Lagoon. On the tour, your guide will share their knowledge of how the glacier forms, and how the constant change in glaciers affects the area and the glaciers themselves. On this tour, you will be able to experience the spectacular scenery on the ever-changing glacier, not only in the winter but during the summer months in Iceland. The tour is rated medium in terms of difficulty and you will be walking a total distance of about 6-8 km (depending on the group) on various terrains. You will be equipped with crampons, a helmet, and a safety harness. The guide will introduce you to the safety equipment and ensure that you are prepared before the journey begins.

It is highly advisable to take a camera, or at least a phone to capture the amazing moments because it will not be long before the glacial formations change or even disappear as they normally do.

Glacier Walk
Before stepping foot on the glacier you will meet your guide at Jökulsarlon the Glacier lagoon where your guide will teach you a few things you will need to know while walking on the glacier. We will take you with one of the biggest Superjeeps in Iceland close to the glacier, it’s about a half-an-hour drive, from where the adventure starts.

Once we hit the ice you will not only be amazed by the beauty but also mesmerised by the sound as the ice beneath your feet crunches. During
this tour, you have the possibility to even see crevasses, moulins and the world-famous glacier wall on Jokulsarlon.

Maybe if you are lucky, you can even see the glacier calve. The walk during the whole tour can be between 6-10 km.
