Private Reykjanes Peninsula
- Know about the Fishermans life in Iceland with a private local guide
- Explore the youngest part of Iceland
- Walk between North America and Europe
Reykjanes peninsula is just one big lava. This is an active volcanic area with natural hot springs, volcanoes, small fishing villages and where the biggest ridge in the world rises from the ocean. The landscape there is dark and heavy and different from anything else in Iceland. The best way to explore this is with a private guide.
After being picked up from a place at your choice in Reykjavik, you will head out on this beautiful and fun journey. Listen to your guide tell you all about elves, trolls and all the life Vikings gave the nature in the old days.
You will begin on top of Reykjavik in a place named Gardskagi. There are two lighthouses and one of them is one of the oldest ones on Iceland. Sometimes there are seals lying on the beach there or sticking their heads up. You can also find an old wooden boat on dry there with a little dock around it.
Next stop is the oldest and also the smallest village on Reykjanes peninsula. See the old black church there and learn about why churches were painted black. See the anchor from American ship that changed the whole village. This place has so much history to keep.
A drive from North American part of Iceland over to the European part to see the bridge between these two continents. Nowhere else in the world can you walk between these two continents than in Iceland.
Short drive further south and you will visit the old ghost Gunna. This is a woman that used to live in this area and is now hunting the guests that visit these geothermal hot springs there.
Right next to these hot springs are the Reykjanes cliffs. These cliffs are absolutely magnificent. Seeing the power of the North Atlantic ocean splashing on the black lava cliffs is a really breathtaking experience.
The last stop before heading back is a small pool in the lava cliffs by the ocean named Brimketill. It is not allowed to swim in it though. Watching the waves brake all over the place and filling this pool over and over again is amazing.
