Glacier carved landscape, ancient curvy rivers, Iceland’s largest lava cave and the worlds’ most powerful hot spring – These are just few of our favorite things on Pink Iceland West Safari. On our journey West we sometimes drive through the tranquil Whale Fjord Bay. The origin of the name is uncertain but many believe the name derives from an old legend of the infamous Red Headed Whale whose Reign of terror ended with his heart exploding on top of Whale Mountain. But like so many of our folktales it all started with a furious fairy.

While it might not look like the part Deildartunguhver hot spring is the world’s most powerful hot spring and main energy source for much of the West. Icelanders have utilised geothermal reservoirs from the ye olden times and proof of that is in the nearby Snorralaug (Snorri’s Pool) a 1000 year old hot tub. Named after Snorri Sturluson – the prominent medieval author of the epical Poetic Eddas. After a hard day's work scribbling down what would later become invaluable world literature, he would relax in his privately owned hot tub.

While Snorri's tiny tub is closed to the rest of the Krauma Geothermal baths certainly arent! Krauma offers five relaxing natural geothermal baths, a cold tub to get your blood circulation going, two calming saunas and a relaxation room where you can rest by the fireplace while listening to soothing music. While lunch is not included you can grab a bite to eat at the Krauma Pools or even bring your own if you're on a budget.

We continue on to the wonders of Hraunfossar and Barnafoss, a series of waterfalls formed by rivulets streaming over a distance of about 900 meters out of the massive Hallmundarhraun lava field. And finally, we will visit Icelandic goats. – unlike any other, these gentle, cuddly and curious animals are on brink of extinction but by selfless dedication and determination our friendly local goat breeder is keeping the stock alive and inviting you over for a cup of coffee and time spent with the animals. Some of them also starred in Game of Thrones, just saying.

A full day guided tour, entry to Krauma and entry to Goat Farm.
