Pickup
Depart from Reykjavik at 8:00am. Your guide will pick you up from your hotel and start your adventure towards Iceland’s famous south coast.
Seljalandsfoss
The first stop on our tour is the breathtaking Seljalandsfoss waterfall. During most of the year, you can walk behind the waterfall into a cave for a view from the back and the sides. The surrounding area is also home to a variety of plant life, including moss, wildflowers, and ferns that add to its majesty. Bring a rain jacket because this waterfall by far has the most spray!
Skogafoss
Next up is the mighty Skogafoss waterfall, one of Iceland’s largest waterfalls, with a drop of over 60 meters. Feel the power of this waterfall close up. The mist from the falls can create a beautiful display of rainbows on sunny days if you’re lucky. If you want a workout, climb up a nearby staircase to get a bird’s-eye view of the waterfall and surrounding landscapes.
Hike to Solheimajokull Glacier
We’ll take a short 30-minute hike to the face of the Solheimajokull glacier, where you can marvel at the sparkling blue ice and rugged glacial landscapes. Witness what happens when a glacier exists underneath of Katla, Iceland’s largest active volcano. Your guide will share some interesting facts about the glacier’s formation, its importance to Iceland’s ecosystem, and how it has changed throughout the years.
Dyrhólaey
Next, we’ll visit the towering cliffs of Dyrhólaey, where you can see breathtaking views of the black sand beaches and some truly remarkable sea stacks and cliff formations. Keep your eyes peeled for puffins and other seabirds that nest in the cliffs in the summertime.
The Black Sand Beach
We will end our tour with a visit to Reynisfjara, a stunning black sand beach with towering basalt columns and sea stacks. The beach is also home to some fascinating folklore and legends, including the story of the Reynisdrangar sea stacks. You can also explore the nearby cave, Halsanefshellir, which has unique rock formations and provides a stunning backdrop for photos.
Drop-off
We conclude this epic adventure with a relaxing drive back to Reykjavik where you will part ways with your guide and get dropped off back at your accommodation.
Throughout the tour, your photographer will capture the beauty of the landscapes and the memories of your trip, so you can relax and enjoy the sights without worrying about taking photos. At the end of the journey, you will receive an edited photo package as a keepsake of your South Coast adventure within 14 days.
