Snowshoeing in Krafla volcanic area
Walking on snowshoes while sightseeing in a dormant local Volcano
Join us for a winter adventure in the Krafla area of Lake Myvatn on snowshoes.
On this tour we will walk around in Krafla volcano park exploring the lava formations and steamy geothermal area in the winter wonder of lake Mývatn area
We will drive to Krafla from our office and start the tour there. The walk takes a little more than two hours so expect around a three hour excursion. Please dress warm as we will be in a mountain area in the cold and snow and bring drinks and a snack with you.
*Guidance, snowshoes and hiking poles are included!
Meet us at our office by the Berjaya Hotel Myvatn 15 minutes before tour start.
We then will drive to the Krafla area, there we will put on our snowshoes and begin our guided hike.
On the way we will see amazing mountain views, geothermal area and steaming lava from when the area erupted in the Krafla fires period from 1975 to1984.
The hike takes between 2 1/2 to 3 hours as we make our way around the Leirhnjúkur eruption site. On the way you get plenty of time to take pictures and as you have a local guide on the tour you will receive information about the area and get to ask any questions you have.
As we will be walking on snow in the cold it is good to dress warm and according to weather, be aware that weather in Iceland can change fast. Bring beany/Hat, Gloves and sunglasses. It is always good to bring some food and drink and keep in your backpack just in case you get hungry or thirsty.
