Hike up to Iceland’s newest Volcano and learn interesting geological features about the development of the eruption and the lava field. A “once-in-a-lifetime” experience that you will never forget.

THIS TOUR GOES TO THE NEW ERUPTION AT LITLA-HRÚT

The eruption at Fagradalsfjall began on March 19, 2021, and offers the unique opportunity to experience a breathtaking natural spectacle in a very unique way.

The tour starts with a pick-up in Reykjavik at Bus stop 8 (Hallgrimskirkja). The drive to the eruption side on Reykjanes peninsula leads through old lava fields and gives a first impression of the creation of Iceland and the forming of the landscape in this area.

The Hike begins with an overview of the volcanic history on the Reyjanes peninsula and the first signs of a new eruption at this place. At the lava field, we will discover the forming of new land and learn how the composition of the lava influences the appearance of the rocks. The following hike, up to the crater viewpoint will give you a breathtaking view of the lava field and the surrounding area.

The drive back to Reykjavik leads along hot springs, lakes, and mountains through the beautiful landscape of the Reykjanes peninsula.

As a professional geologist/volcanologist, I can give you a detailed insight into the processes of the eruption.

A volcanic eruption is a natural phenomenon, therefore the activity of the eruption can change quickly and the view of hot glowing lava can not be guaranteed.

The hike takes about 1 hour to 1.5 hours in each direction (2 to 3 hours in total). It's a difficult hike through rough terrain and sometimes bad weather conditions. Hiking experience, physical fitness, and good hiking equipment are required. Because of gas pollution in the area, the hike is not recommended for children under 12 years, pregnant woman, or people with lung diseases.

The hike can be canceled with short notice due to bad weather conditions or high gas pollution.
