Skaftafell Panorama Hike
An Epic Ascent in Skaftafell with Panoramic Glacier Views
Step into the heart of Icelandic wilderness on this challenging guided hike through dramatic mountain terrain. This full-day experience is tailored for seasoned hikers looking for breathtaking glacier views, raw nature, and a rewarding physical challenge.
The journey begins near Skaftafell visitor centre and leads through varied landscapes—lush valleys, rugged hillsides, and exposed highland trails. A visit to the iconic Svartifoss waterfall, with its striking basalt formations, is a memorable highlight early in the hike.
As the elevation increases, you’ll be treated to wide-open views of vast glaciers, distant volcanic peaks, and endless black sand plains. The final stretch follows a rocky ridgeline, with the possibility of reaching a high summit point depending on conditions and group pace.
Covering 18 km with an elevation gain of 1215 meters, this circular route takes around 6–8 hours and requires excellent fitness and prior hiking experience.
