Participate in a three days annual sheep roundup in the Hengill mountain area and experience a real, authentic Icelandic tradition. We call this “réttir”. It is one of Iceland’s oldest cultural tradition where farmers, their friends and family come together to round up the sheep that have been living in the mountains over the summer. The sheep are collected and flocked to a sheepfold in the lowland. This is done by foot or on horses in a beautiful, rural landscape.
This is is a great way to get to know the locals, their old traditions and the Icelandic horse that is an essential part of this event. Pickup 8:00 at hotel and we drive to our farm and go over the Travel plan and riding to the mountain friday September 15th . Saturday September 16th- Collection of the sheep.
Sunday September 17th. A riding tour to the sheepfold where farmers categorize their sheep and from there to Solhestar base for dinner. Transportation to the hotel or the airport( Bus terminal BSI Reykjavik) in the evening.
