Reykjanes Peninsula & Blue Lagoon Private Day Tour
Venture off the beaten path into the lunar landscapes of the Reykjanes Peninsula on this unique tour. This UNESCO Global Geopark combines lava fields, lakes, active geothermal areas, hot springs and much more into a series of unforgettable landscapes!
Starting with a private pickup from your hotel or port, you will set off with one of our professional driver-guides to explore the Reykjanes Peninsula. The first stop will be to enjoy the breathtaking volcanic landscapes around Kleifarvatn, the largest lake on the peninsula and the third largest in southern Iceland. This lake is situated right over a volcano fissure, and its vibrant colors set against the surrounding mountains make this an excellent photo stop!
We will then carry on to visit two very active geothermal areas along the peninsula. The first of these is Seltún, where we will have the opportunity to walk among the bubbling mud pools, steaming hot springs and mineral deposits that make up this colorful other-worldly landscape. The next is Gunnuhver, home to Iceland´s biggest mud pool and the only hot springs in Iceland with 100% sea water. This eerie geothermal landscape got its name from the angry ghost Gudrun, whose spirit was trapped in the hot springs by a priest 400 years ago.
Our journey will then take us to the Valahnúkamöl cliffs at the very tip of the peninsula. This impressive coastline boasts craggy volcanic cliffs, crashing waves, and is home to several types of waterfoul during the summer months, making it a bird-watcher's paradise. While in the area, we will take advantage of the opportunity to visit Iceland´s oldest lighthouse, Reykjanesviti.
Our next stop is truly a one-of-a-kind experience. The Reykjanes Peninsula lies on the Mid Atlantic Ridge, providing visitors the unique opportunity to cross the gap formed by the continental drift between two of the world's major tectonic plates. After crossing this Bridge Between Continents you will be able say you crossed from Europe to North America in just a matter of seconds!
We will finish out the tour with a visit to the Blue Lagoon. This is a real for highlight for many travelers in Iceland and has been identified as one of the Wonders of the World. The geothermal water is rich in silica, minerals, and algae that provide it with its distinct blue color and healing properties. You will have the opportunity to relax and bathe in the lagoon or simply enjoy the beautiful surroundings. (Entry to Blue Lagoon is not included in the tour price and must be booked well in advance. Please inquire at time of booking).
The day will conclude with hotel or port dropoff.
