Queer City Walk / Private Tour
Reykjavik herstory
Please note that the Reykjavik Queer City walk is now only available as a private tour, if you're queer and interested in the walk but-can't afford it let us know as we don't want to price out the community we serve. We have a special programme where we offer free city walks to members of our community who would like to get to know more about how we fought and survived here in Iceland.
We to Get to know downtown Reykjavík – from bottom to top, history and trivia. Discover how and where gay history in Reykjavík began, how the battle for equality has evolved through the years and where we are at now. See the venues frequented by LGBT people throughout the years and learn about the general history and outlook of the people who built Reykjavík and those who inhabit it today. We usually start the tour by the Pink Iceland offices on Hverfisgata (street parallel to Laugavegur, the main shopping street) Places often visited include the old center of town where we see Parliament, Iceland's Cathedral, Hotel Borg, Iceland's first (and oldest) street, Reykjavík's oldest house (which used to house a gay bar) and loads of other cool sites. Harpa, the beautiful and brand new Reykjavik Music and Conference Center. After a short stop we continue past the Central Bank of Iceland, The Supreme Court and The National Theatre before closing the circle and ending where we started. We welcome and encourage your questions during the tour. We're pretty knowledgeable about the city and its history and if we don't know the answer we're good storytellers and can probably come up with an answer more interesting than the facts! The tour is only available in English.
