Description

Embark on a journey through Iceland's enchanting South Coast as the midnight sun illuminates the rugged landscape. Leaving Reykjavik behind, we traverse the moss-covered lava fields of the Hellisheiði plateau, passing by rows of majestic mountains that tower above us. The scenic drive to the coastline is a feast for the eyes, with breathtaking views of Iceland's natural wonders.

Our first stop is the ethereal Seljalandsfoss waterfall, where the midnight sun casts a golden glow on the cascading water. Take a walk behind the waterfall and bask in the magic of the midnight sun. Here, you can witness the natural beauty of the waterfall up close and personal, and marvel at the fascinating geological formation that has made Seljalandsfoss one of Iceland's most beloved attractions.

We continue our journey past the infamous Eyjafjallajökull glacier, a natural wonder that has captured the imagination of people all over the world. As we make our way to Skógafoss waterfall, one of Iceland's most beautiful waterfalls, the midnight sun creates a stunning display of colors as the water cascades down the cliff. A staircase leads up to an observation platform above the waterfall, offering breathtaking views of the coastline. You can capture this moment forever with your camera, or simply bask in the beauty of the moment.

Our final destination is Reynisfjara black sand beach, where the midnight sun illuminates the towering basalt pinnacles of Reynisdrangar and the basalt-columned wall of mountain Reynisfjall. The ocean waves crash against the basalt cave of Hálsanefhellir, creating a mesmerizing display of light and shadows. It's important to be cautious of the "sneaker waves" that have been known to pull people into the sea, but the midnight sun makes this area an unforgettable sight. At Reynisfjara black sand beach, you can take a leisurely walk along the beach, enjoying the natural beauty of the area and taking in the breathtaking views of the towering basalt cliffs.

As we make our way back to Reykjavik, take in the magic of the midnight sun and the breathtaking landscapes of Iceland's South Coast. This tour is an unforgettable experience that will leave you with memories that will last a lifetime.

The 62 m (203 ft) high majestic waterfall Seljalandsfoss is fed by spring water originating in the moor Hamragarðaheiði and is part of the river Seljalandsá. Many think it is fed with melting water from the glacier-capped Eyjafjallajökull, a volcano that famously erupted in 2010 and affected air traffic throughout Europe, but the water in Seljalandsfoss is bright and clean due to it being spring water. It cascades into a beautiful meadow, like a curtain over a tall cliff that once marked a coastline by the ocean before eruptions extended the land, and behind the waterfall is a walking path for a unique angle of the waterfall and its surroundings. This trail continues from behind the waterfall and around it. The picturesque Seljalandsfoss is among the most photographed waterfalls in Iceland for a reason. For instance, it was featured in Justin Bieber‘s music video I’ll Show You and was the first leg of the sixth season of the American series The Amazing Race.

Be sure to wear shoes with a good grip if you plan on walking behind Seljalandsfoss as it can be slippery, and wear waterproof clothing due to the spraying from the waterfall.

We’ll also make a short walk to Seljalandsfoss’ neighbor Gljúfrabúi, a 40 m (131 ft) high partially hidden waterfall in the river Gljúfursá within a canyon with mossy walls, which is a great addition to the spectacular visits on the south coast of Iceland. You will however need waterproof shoes to get to Gljúfrabúi.

  • Please respect nature – do not throw out trash or walk on any moss.
  • For environmental responsibility purposes, you do not need to print out your e-ticket.
  • Your private driver-guide can always recommend different restaurants in the area and – make stops on the way so you can purchase food/snacks/drinks, but you are also welcome to bring a packed meal.
  • Dress according to the weather – bring warm and wind-/waterproof clothing, gloves, and a hat.
  • Wear suitable footwear, preferably waterproof with a good grip, in case of slippery conditions due to rain or gravel paths.
  • We may occasionally need to alter the tour itinerary due to unpredictable weather and road conditions in Iceland. The weather in Iceland can be quite unpredictable.

Seljalandsfoss is a stunning waterfall located in the south of Iceland. Visitors can walk behind the waterfall for a unique perspective or admire it from the front.
