Private Hekla & Mælifell – From Selfoss
From June 15th - September 15th
Hekla & Mælifell are two very famous mountains in Iceland for very different features, and the area between them some of the most beautiful and diverse. Perfect tour for photographers
Hekla is one of Iceland's most active volcanoes. A stratovolcano standing at 1488m tall was nicknamed "The Gateway to Hell" in the Middle ages.
Beyond Hekla are her lava fields, mountain passes and black deserts we have to pass by or through, with plenty of opportunity to stop, enjoy our surroundings and take some photos.
Álftavatn, the midway point of the popular Laugavegur hiking trail and also the midway of our tour. Sits in an old glacier valley, a vast area secluded with mountains but still open enough to offer some spectacular views.
Mælifell’s name translates to ‘Measuring Hill used as points of navigation for early Icelanders.
Mælifell, a once volcano stands at 791m.
This famously green mountain lurks behind Mýrdalsjökull glacier, in what can only be described as a black sandy desert, and the surroundings are incredible.
