The lagoon developed after the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier started receding around the 1930s. The lagoon has grown since then at varying rates due to the melting of the glaciers.

We’ll also explore other wonders of Vatnajökull National Park. Including the Diamond Beach, Fjallsárjökull, and Skaftafell National Park.
