Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon is a unique place located in the southeast of Iceland. It is one of Iceland favourite location for photographers and nature lovers.

The glacier lagoon is filled with icebergs and meltwater from Breiðamerkurjökull a part of Vatnajökull glacier, Europe´s largerst glacier. Jökulsárlón is a rather recent formation, it started to form in the 1930s when Breiðamerkurjökull began to shrink due to rising temperature. It is the deepest lake in the country, with depths of 248 meters and a surface area of 18 square kilometers.

It stands out when it comes to beautiful surroundings.  It connects with the ocean that results in the compositing of freshwater and sea  which forms a mixture that gives a unique Greenish-Blue color. It is filled with icebergs of all of all shapes and sizes and although most of the icebergs are white, some of them are beautiful blue, ash gray and even completely clear like glass.

The beauty of the lake and surrounding landscape has not gone unnoticed by the film industry. Scenes from several Hollywood films have been filmed there, for example: Tomb Raider, Batman Begins, and two James Bond films, A View to a Kill and Die Another Day.

Located near the glacier lagoon is the Diamond Beach. It is a black sand beach where the icebergs which fill the glacier lagoon wash up on shore, creating a unique contrast with the volcanic black sand.
